My friend just called me and told me her husband is trying to talk her into buying a fire warden kit. I have no idea what that is so I just laughed at her. She than began to tell me what comes in the kit like a Hi-viz jacket and light sticks. She then told me that it also comes with an emergency gas horn. I was laughing so hard I started to cry. I just imagined her comic book loving husband trying to be a take charge guy in an emergency. I mean I was there when their son was born he passed out the second they walked into the hospital.

When it comes to jobs I haven had that many, I can count them with one hand and have three fingers left. I had a job taking care of kids in their summer vacations, which was quite stressful even if it was only playing around with kids all day long. After that I got he one I have right now, which I love, I’m nothing more that an assistance right now, but I’m the creative director’s assistance in an advertising agency, and as an advertising student I found the job, although boring sometimes, extremely enriching, I can honestly say I learn more there than during classes.

Keeping your home and family fire safe safe requires a few precautions. Being sure that you have smoke alarms installed is just one. While most homes now have smoke alarms, not all homes ensure that they are working. A bad habit that many have is taking the alarm down or the battery out to avoid hearing the alarm going off when cooking. Each home should make it a point to prohibit this. Often batteries are left out and the alarm is unable to do the job for which it is intended. In addition each home should have fire extinguishers. One should be in the kitchen and one on each level of the home. This includes the basement and the garage.

Can you guess which city I’m talking about? If I could go anywhere in the world on vacation I would go to New York, because to me that city represents true cultural diversity, there is nothing you can’t found there from entertainment to culture, it’s a city full of stories, some cliché, some completely outside the norm where you don’t know what to expect yet you can expect everything. New York is an adventure waiting to happen with everything the concrete jungle has to offer. The choice might not be the most original or exciting but to me it would be a dream came true.

I don’t think most people who know me realize how judgmental I am inside. I sometimes come across as a mild-mannered, somewhat quiet devoted mother. However, I’m almost always judging in my mind—thinking about people in a critical way, or analyzing their motives, or casting doubts as to whether they are telling the truth about things. If I somehow had my inner censor stripped away for a day, and said all I was thinking, I have a feeling I’d lose most of my friends. I am always careful with what I say, partly because I know if I said what I thought much of the time, it would be hurtful to people. No-one knows what goes on inside other’s heads, and I am glad of that, very glad.

It’s hard for me to write about my best features! I’ve got Maine-bred modesty, where you don’t toot your own horn. But if I have to…well, I’d say one of my best features personality-wise is my listening skills. I truly enjoy hearing what other people have to say, more than talking myself. I love to hear about people’s lives. Friends often call me to tell me all the details about incidents in their lives, and comment how nice it is to have someone listen carefully. As for physical appearance—I’m not thrilled with how I look lately, but I do still get comments on my smile. I try hard to smile as I much as possible, and let people know I am happy to see them, and people do seem to notice that, I’m told, anyway!

Lately, it’s some little things I look forward to each day. I love seeing who has played Scrabble against me, and playing my games, or picking up my library book where I left off and escaping into another world for a bit. However, on a daily basis, I think I most look forward to that first coffee of the day. There is something about that hot, slightly bitter drink that feels so wonderful in the morning. It’s a little treat I can have every day, a little piece of indulgence in a day that often can be quite free of it otherwise. Sometimes when my husband makes my coffee, he tops it with whipped cream, and as I sip it, I feel like a queen. It’s good to have something little to make the day start off well.

My past weekend was much like most of my weekends. As the mother of three kids, one of them a 7 year old with autism, I don’t exactly burn up the town most weekends. Generally, weekends are for catching up on laundry, dishes and other house chores. I do enjoy sleeping a bit later than my usual 5am wakeup, because my husband is home to watch my daughter if she’s up early, and I often do get coffee in bed, and some extra time to read, but otherwise, weekend are quite similar to weekdays, without the school routine. I think back to my college years fondly, when I would truly look forward to weekends as an exciting time where anything could happen, but those days are over!
If I could snap my fingers and change one things about the world, it would be the lack of equal educational opportunities for all. It simply makes me sick that some lucky kids get a fabulous education, due simply to the luck of living in the right place, while others get no education at all, or a very poor one. Even within the United States, this gap exists, and yet we expect all kids to be able to have an equal chance? That’s crazy. I would guess there are many potential Einsteins or Mozarts out there we will never know about, because they never had a chance to show what they could do, due to a lack of education. If we want to move forward as a world, we need to educate all children equally.

I am tired of seeing a fire hose reel everywhere I go. Regardless of the building there always seem to be one around. The last one I went to seemed to have several. I guess it makes the work place safe. I have never actually seen one in use. They look a little complicated as they seem quite long and heavy. I do not think I could cope if there was a fire. I certainly would not be attempting to put the fire out. I would have left the building a long time ago. I think I would be good at letting myself out in a hurry in order to escape the inferno.
