If I could snap my fingers and change one things about the world, it would be the lack of equal educational opportunities for all. It simply makes me sick that some lucky kids get a fabulous education, due simply to the luck of living in the right place, while others get no education at all, or a very poor one. Even within the United States, this gap exists, and yet we expect all kids to be able to have an equal chance? That’s crazy. I would guess there are many potential Einsteins or Mozarts out there we will never know about, because they never had a chance to show what they could do, due to a lack of education. If we want to move forward as a world, we need to educate all children equally.

I love country music! I didn’t love it until about 10 years ago—I had the typical young person’s preference for rock. But one day, out of boredom with my station choices on the radio, I strayed to a country station and found songs I loved—songs that had a melody, that told stories, that contained emotions I could relate to—songs about family and married love and the like. In contrast, I just can’t understand rap or hip-hop. I know a lot of people like it, and I know it contains interesting word play, but it sounds like mean shouting, and I don’t like the swearing or the putting down of women it often seems to contain. I feel like an old fuddy-duddy writing this—like someone very conservative, but I have to be true to myself, and listen to what I like!
There are many different issues that are plaguing the world today. From poverty to war, many people suffer every day for no good reason at all. One thing that needs to be changed in the world is hunger. There is no excuse for children to be starving. Regardless of nationality, race, gender, or age, everyone should be able to eat when hungry. Thousands starve all over the world due to famine and drought, yet larger countries waste so much. Shipping food to impoverished nations is the solution. By helping out neighboring nations and being a little less greedy, more powerful nations can end world hunger.

As a lover of music, it is hard to criticize different genres. It is easy to find beauty in most music; however, there are some types that just don’t make sense. Rap music, while is considered to be an expression of self, is vulgar and utterly disgusting. Aside from referring to violence and drug use, rap music uses no logical use of words or syllables. While I like all music, sometimes putting a word in a song just so that it will rhyme without any sort of sense to it ruins the musical characteristics of the piece. This is commonly done in rap music, tainting the overall sound of the genre.

The farthest place I have ever been from home was for my senior trip to Hawaii. With its pristine beaches and lovely weather, the whole atmosphere took my breath away. There were so many things to do in Hawaii as well. Hawaii is a very culturally rich place that has a ton of things to do. From hiking mountains to learning to surf, there is something there for everyone. There are spas to relax at and get a massage and bars and nightclubs to enjoy the night life in Hawaii. Furthermore, there are historical places such as the queen’s palace and the infamous site of Pearl Harbor to behold.

Ever since I was young, I had this fear. I discovered this fear when I was about five or six years of age. I had to pick up a mop to clean the floor which I accidentally spilt milk on. I was wearing a shirt with two large pockets in them. When I got the mop, a big black spider fell right into one of my pockets and I screamed in fright. Since that time on, I knew I cannot face spiders. Most people do not know my secret. I dare not tell unless absolutely necessary, such as when I need someone to shoo away a spider.
