Just for fun

June 29th, 2010 admin Comments off

I am a very simple person, so the smallest things keep me happy. My favorite day of the week is Saturday, because that means my husband doesn’t have work or school, and we can spend the entire day together, doing whatever we want. Usually, we will go to the nearest park and take a walk together. We also enjoy watching movies, hiking, traveling, shopping—anything we feel like doing together. There are some activities that I like to do alone; I like to read, draw, ride my bicycle, and learn how to do new things. For example, I taught myself how to create tile mosaics, which was very enjoyable.

Fire!

June 28th, 2010 admin Comments off

It’s ironical that the very mention of FIRE sends a CHILL down the spine! It is believed that man took his first step in evolving after he found fire. But ever since man found fire there have been disasters because of that. But actually it is because of carelessness and in some cases stupidity that these accidents happen, for example- switching on the lights when there is a doubt of a gas leak!! Nowadays there has been a lot of improvement in fire-safety. Wet chemical fire extinguishers are a revelation. They come only second to fire-men in saving lives. A small wet chemical fire extinguisher has averted and reduced thousands of fire accidents. The best way to avoid fire accidents are to be careful and take necessary precautions, like wearing rubber gloves, while handling fire or any inflammable material.

Recent dinner-table adventures

June 24th, 2010 admin Comments off

Last night, my grandma cooked dinner. My dad’s parents are meat-and-potatoes kinds of people. The dinners they serve are very simple, yet hearty and filling. Fittingly, we had meatloaf, salad, and corn. Everything tasted delicious. The meatloaf sauce was sweet, like it had honey in it. The salad was normal with romaine lettuce, carrot shavings, celery, cauliflower, avocados, and tomatoes; however, I picked out the avocados and tomatoes, because I’ve never enjoyed those two foods. Everyone says that I’m crazy, being from California and not liking avocados, but I just don’t enjoy the texture. I wonder what’s on the menu tonight?

A sad time

June 21st, 2010 admin Comments off

The current recession hasn’t been too hard on my husband and I. We are still in college. The difficult thing for me is seeing others without work. My dad is 54 years old. He has worked hard throughout his life. He is smart, friendly, and everybody loves him. A year ago, he lost his job. What makes me sad is not that my parents don’t have enough money—because they have fortunately saved for an event like this. What saddens me is the way my dad has changed. He tries to hide it, but his spirit has been broken. He doesn’t have that same happy look in his eye that he used to. And that’s what hurts me most about this recession.

This morning, I woke up earlier than I would have liked. My husband leaves for work at about 7:30, and it’s our tradition to eat breakfast together before he drives off. Usually I’m too tired to be good company for him, but our traditions will not be broken. Also, I do like to see him a little in the morning, because I miss him during the day. Right now, I should be busy because we are taking our vacation in two days. There is so much to do. But my laziness has gotten the better of me. I have succumbed to the temptation of a good book and a nice warm bed. Packing can wait.

Credit Cards are the Devil

June 15th, 2010 admin Comments off

If I could only pass one lesson on to my kids that had to do with finances, it would be never use credit cards. Credit card companies act like they are here to help you with their points, and their offers in the mail. Credit card companies are the biggest bullies in America. They prey on the poor and middle class. Too many people rely on them to get by, and then they dig a hole they can’t get out of. I read somewhere that the average American has over $8,000 in credit card debt. Don’t become another one of their victims. If you don’t have the money now, don’t buy it.

Small Town Living

June 10th, 2010 admin Comments off

I live in a small town in southeast Texas. About four times a year my job carries to big cities like Houston and Austin. I’m always amazed while I’m there at the stuff people deal with on a daily basis. I would never live somewhere with so much traffic. The town I live in hardly ever has traffic, and if you need to get somewhere in town it isn’t going to take over ten minutes. I absolutely love small town living. People know who you are, and you know them. If I were to ever relocate my family, I would never dream of taking them anywhere but another small town.

Casual Jeans

June 7th, 2010 admin Comments off

Beginning this year, the school I work for adopted a casual dress code. We used to be required to wear dress pants every day, but now they allow us to wear jeans. I have a nice comfortable pair of blue jeans on today, with my brown dress shoes, and a brown belt. It was forty five degrees when I left the house, so I have a long sleeve rugby style shirt on. The shirt has blue, horizontal stripes and a white collor. I have a simple brown jacket to put on when I leave. Without a doubt, I love being able to come to work in relaxing clothes.

Fire safety is life safety

June 4th, 2010 admin Comments off

Fire is a dangerous enemy and we must protect ourselves from this enemy by having a perfect arsenal. An arsenal which will arrest the fire as it begins to harm you. The small afff fire extinguishers, yes we must have the afff fire extinguishers in our house, apartment for a quick response to a fire outbreak. Home is a place where our loved ones live and kitchen is where the fire starts. Knowing the cause of fire is very essential to fighting it the correct way. So we must install a Gas leak detector and smoke detector to first of all understand the cause in order to take appropriate action.

Mom

Learning how to determine latitude by using a ...

When I was a freshman in high school, my mother passed away. I was definitely a mommy’s boy, and losing her was the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. You never really get over something like that. Now almost fifteen years later, I still have moments where I will just break down. They don’t come near as often these days, but they come just the same. If somehow I could be granted a wish, there is nothing I would want more than to see her again. I miss her so much, and having her in my life again would be the most valuable thing I could ever have.
